Uninsured Motorist Coverage
Pays for your injuries and damage if you're hit by a driver with no insurance.
What is uninsured motorist coverage?
Uninsured motorist (UM) coverage pays for your medical bills and vehicle damage when an at-fault driver has no insurance. Some states require UM coverage; others make it optional but recommended.
Details
An estimated 12-13% of US drivers are uninsured, and that rate is much higher in some states. UM coverage protects you when the at-fault party has no resources to pay for your injuries. The closely related underinsured motorist (UIM) coverage kicks in when the at-fault driver has insurance but not enough to cover your damages.
