SR-22

A certificate of financial responsibility your state may require after certain violations.

What is sr-22?

An SR-22 is a certificate your insurer files with your state proving you carry the minimum required liability coverage. It’s typically required after a DUI, driving without insurance, multiple at-fault accidents, or a license suspension.

Details

An SR-22 isn’t insurance — it’s a filing your insurer makes for you. It typically must be maintained for 3 years. Carriers often charge a filing fee plus a higher base premium for SR-22 drivers. Not all carriers will write SR-22 policies; non-standard or high-risk carriers (Direct Auto, The General) often specialize in them.
