Non-Renewal
When an insurer chooses not to renew your policy at the end of its term.
What is non-renewal?
Non-renewal is when your insurer chooses not to continue your policy at the end of the term. The insurer must give written notice (usually 30-60 days) and a reason. Non-renewal is different from cancellation.
Details
Non-renewal typically happens after multiple claims, multiple violations, lapses in payment, or changes in the insurer’s underwriting appetite. Non-renewal doesn’t disqualify you from coverage — it just means this specific carrier doesn’t want to continue. Shop other carriers immediately; gaps in coverage raise rates and create legal exposure.
