Minimum Coverage
The least amount of insurance a state legally requires drivers to carry.
What is minimum coverage?
Minimum coverage is the lowest amount of insurance your state legally requires drivers to carry. It’s almost always just liability coverage at low limits, and it’s almost always inadequate for most drivers.
Details
State minimums vary widely. Texas requires 30/60/25 — $30K bodily injury per person, $60K per accident, $25K property damage. Florida requires just 10/20/10. These limits are easily exceeded in a serious accident; the at-fault driver is personally liable for the excess.
