FAQ
How much auto insurance do I need?
Most drivers need significantly more than their state’s minimum liability coverage. State minimums (often 25/50/25 or lower) are inadequate for serious accidents — a single injury claim can easily exceed $100,000 in medical bills and lost wages.
Recommended baseline for most drivers:
- 100/300/100 liability — $100K bodily injury per person, $300K per accident, $100K property damage
- Collision + comprehensive if your vehicle is worth more than ~$3,000 or is financed
- Uninsured/underinsured motorist matching your liability limits
- PIP or MedPay for medical coverage regardless of fault
If you have significant assets (home equity, retirement accounts, investments), consider a personal umbrella policy for an additional $1M+ in liability coverage. Umbrella is cheap insurance — typically $200-400/year — and sits above your auto and home liability.
